"I was born on Holy Saturday, April 16, 1927, in Marktl am Inn. The fact that my birthday was the last day of Holy Week and the eve of Easter was always noted in the family history, because it meant that I was baptized on the morning of my birthday with the newly consecrated water during the 'Easter Vigil,' which was celebrated in the morning at that time. Being the first to be baptized with the new water was considered a significant event. That my life was thus immersed in the Easter mystery from the very beginning has always filled me with gratitude, for this could only be a sign of blessing."
